Dear Sugar,
I have recently (as in yesterday) taken up jogging and I have a huge problem with my breathing. I do not know if it is "in through your nose out through your mouth," or what! I am really out of shape and I want to make this new exercise as welcoming as I can so I do not get discouraged. I try hard to focus on my breathing so I am not thinking about how out of breath I am but then I get even more out of breath!
What are your tips for the most efficient jog?
If you have never really jogged before, you might need to start out at an even lower level. for example, doing a circuit of walking and jogging (3 minutes each or so, switching back and forth). This will help build your endurance, and therefore make your breathing a bit easier. Eventually you can cut the time down of the walking, and continue jogging.
I have always been a really fit swimmer (never ever ever a runner). Since graduating from college, I don't have easy access to a pool and therefore started running. I was dead that first week, and full of injuries. Ramping up to jogging has since helped, and now jogging is similar to swimming for me.
Best of luck!
